Black Friday 2026: is it really a deal?
Black Friday is Friday 27 November 2026, and Cyber Monday is 30 November. A big "was" price doesn't mean a good deal. Check the price against its recent lowest before you buy.

Set a Black Friday budget first
- Decide your total before the sales start, and only use money you already have (not next month's pay).
- Write the list: the Christmas gifts and household things you'd buy anyway. Note each one's normal price now, so you can spot fake discounts later. The Christmas budget calculator and the free Christmas checklist PDF help with this.
- Anything not on the list goes on a 30-day wait list. If you still want it in late December, buy it then.
- Unsubscribe and log out of shopping apps for the weekend, and switch off one-click buying.
Your rights when you buy online (UK)
- 14-day cooling-off period: for most things bought online or by phone, you can cancel from the day you order until 14 days after the goods arrive, and get your money back within 14 days of returning them (you may pay return postage).
- Faulty goods: under the Consumer Rights Act 2015 you have 30 days to reject a faulty item for a full refund, and after that the right to a repair or replacement.
- Pay by credit card for £100–£30,000 items: Section 75 makes the card provider jointly responsible if something goes wrong.
- Buy now, pay later: since 15 July 2026 most BNPL lenders have been regulated by the FCA, with affordability checks and the right to complain to the Financial Ombudsman. It's still borrowing, so if you use it, count the full price against your budget.
- Fake reviews are illegal in the UK from April 2025, but they haven't disappeared. Be wary of a page full of five-star reviews posted in the same week.

When is Black Friday 2026 in the UK?
Friday 27 November 2026. Cyber Monday is Monday 30 November 2026, and many UK retailers run sales for the whole week before.
How do I know if a Black Friday deal is real?
Compare the sale price with the lowest price the item has sold for in the past 3–6 months, not with the "was" price. Price-history tools and your own notes from October are the easiest way. If it's been this cheap before, it isn't a special deal.
Can I return something I bought on Black Friday?
Usually, yes, if you bought it online: the 14-day cooling-off period applies to sale items too. In a shop, returns of non-faulty items depend on the shop's own policy, so check it before you pay.
