ISA deadline: 5 April 2027
You have until Monday 5 April 2027 to use your 2026/27 ISA allowance of £20,000. Unused allowance is lost. From 6 April 2027, if you're under 65, only £12,000 a year can go into cash ISAs.
Before the deadline
- Don't leave it to 5 April. Payments need to reach the provider in time, and some set earlier cut-offs for new accounts and debit card payments. Check your provider's cut-off.
- Transfers don't use allowance. Moving old ISAs to a better rate doesn't count towards the £20,000, as long as you use the provider's ISA transfer process. Don't withdraw the money yourself.
- Flexible ISAs let you take money out and put it back in the same tax year without using more allowance. Not all ISAs are flexible.
- Lifetime ISA: up to £4,000 counts within the £20,000 and gets a 25% bonus.
What changes on 6 April 2027 (under-65s)
- The cash ISA limit is £12,000 a year. The overall limit stays £20,000, so the other £8,000 can go into stocks & shares or Innovative Finance ISAs.
- You can no longer transfer from a stocks & shares or IF ISA into a cash ISA.
- Interest paid on cash held inside a stocks & shares ISA will face a 22% charge.
- If you're 65 or over (by the end of the tax year), you keep the £20,000 cash ISA limit.
