UK overtime pay calculator

Enter your rate (or salary), overtime hours and the multiplier your contract uses. See overtime pay, total pay this week, and what that works out to per hour.

How overtime is worked out

Overtime pay = hourly rate × overtime hours × multiplier. If you only know your salary, the hourly rate is salary ÷ (contracted hours × 52). For example, £30,000 at 37.5 hours is £15.38 an hour; five hours at 1.5× is £115.38 of overtime that week.

FAQs

Is overtime paid at 1.5× by law in the UK?

No. UK law does not set a higher overtime rate. You are entitled to at least the National Minimum Wage for hours worked, averaged over the pay period. Anything above that (1.5×, 2×, TOIL) comes from your contract or workplace agreement.

How do I get an hourly rate from a salary?

Divide annual salary by (weekly hours × 52). £30,000 ÷ (37.5 × 52) = £15.38 an hour.

Does overtime count for holiday pay?

Usually yes for workers with irregular hours: average pay over a reference period can include overtime. Check your contract and ACAS guidance for your situation.
