How much stamp duty does a first-time buyer pay on £300,000?
Nothing. First-time buyers pay 0% on the first £300,000, then 5% up to £500,000. Above £500,000, the relief is lost completely and standard rates apply.
How much stamp duty is there on a £250,000 house?
For a home mover it's £2,500 (2% of the £125,000 between £125,000 and £250,000). A first-time buyer pays £0.
